The home is known as “River Scene” and was built by Capt. Joseph Kinney across the river from Booneville… It was built about 1870 by Capt. Kinney who was one of the few Missouri river Captain/owners who made money on the “Wild Missouri River” in the days when the boats transported freight, wheat and flour as well as passengers moving westward into U.S. territories yet to become states. Among some eight steamboats operated successfully by Capt. Kinney was the Steamer Kate Kinney. The Kate Kinney was built at Madison, Ind., in 1873 and operated between St. Louis and Kansas City. He often layed her up for the winter on the lower Mississippi River and she burned at Shreveport, La., on Dec. 15 1883, only 10 years old, one of the few Missouri River boats that ended her career elsewhere from the river she operated.
