"A 10-foot section of the wall of this three-story brick tenement at Twenty-third and Cole streets collapsed to the sidewalk yesterday. A witness reported seeing one man run from the building and then return to free a companion from the rubble. Both men then fled before police and firemen arrived. The building was being razed to make way for a new school."

"Burned-out building collapses; man killed - One person was killed and three others, including an 8-year old girl, were injured when a burned out two-story brick building caved in Sunday at 1834 Delmar bl., police said. Police said Rufus Davis, 46, of 5750 Kennerly ave., was found dead in the debris about 4:10 p.m. Davis's body was identified by a brother - (break) - was pulled from the debris and admitted to City Hospital in critical condition. Others injured were Monica Collins, 8, daughter of Mrs. Pearlie Collins of 1901 Carr dr., who was reported in satisfactory condition at City Hospital, and Dennis Johnson, 16, of 1904 O'Fallon st., who was treated for minor injuries and released."
