Biggest Money Winner, Nurse Solves Globe-Democrat Crossword Puzzle, Wins $26,000 cash. Miss Griffing exclaimed, "unbelievable," when informed that she was the winner. A practical nurse working nights, she related that on occassions the Crossword Quizzer helped fill idle moments during her late hours of duty.
Plans for the Money. Asked what she would do with the money, she replied, "make some return to the Lord's work, pay off the balance on my car and possibly take a little trip as I haven't had a vacation in years."

The President of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition Company was born at Richmond, Madison County Kentucky, October 1, 1850, son of John B. and Eliza Caldwell [Rowland] Francis. Francis served in various political positions, including mayor of St. Louis, governor of Missouri, and Secretary of the Interior. He died January 15, 1927.

"Mrs. Paradoski, a 53-year-old housewife, won a one-week cruise for two aboard the Paquet Lines' S.S. Rhapsody (Bahama Registry). Travel arrangements are being handled by Blitz World Wide Travel Service of St. Louis...Mrs. Paradoski won the cruise by coming closest to predicting the time of the area's first official snowfall. She predicted that the first half-inch snowfall, as recorded by the National Weather Service, would be at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 18. She was off by only five minutes as the first half-inch of snow was recorded at 1:35 a.m. that day at Lambert St. Louis International Airport."
