HISTORY Long before Mizzou constructed the multi-million dollar Student Recreation Center, these were the only gyms students had access to. Gyms were segregated by sex, and were located in single rooms--very different than the facilities today.
This is an early look at the men's gymnasium from 1900. Compare this complex to the Student Recreation Complex, and one could notice the evolution of the University's facilities., Savitar, 1900. page 224.
The Women's Gym began small and simple, as one can see in this photo. Later, in 1922, the University constructed McKee Gymnasium. McKee was also women-specific, but gave them many more amenities in the gymnasium., Savitar, 1900. page 226.
