Description
Soochow, now called Suzhou, is located in eastern China in Jiangsu Province. It is one of the oldest and most famous cities of China and also served as the capital in Chinese history. There is a popular and familiar quotation, “Heaven above, Soochow and Hangchow below.” This series of glass slides of Soochow, Mr. Hiller took totals thirty-one pieces with most taken by Mr. Hiller and several by his wife, Margaret Hiller. The photographs show they took a trip with jeeps in the countryside of Soochow. They also captured the details of Soochow sights and people’s actions during the trip.
