In additiion to making numerous changes in the tax code, the Deficit Reduction Act (P.L. 98-369) amends many social welfare programs including Medicare, Medicaid, Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security, Veterans' programs, and the Earned Income Tax Credit. This paper summarizes the social welfare changes in P.L. 98-369.
