In the lower left corner of the map there is a vignette entitled Monuments on the Plains of Waterloo. These monuments commemorate the battle that took place on June 18, 1815 in which Napoleon Bonaparte was defeated. The entire right side of the map is a vignette entitled Antwerp Cathedral showing the Cathedral of Our Lady in Antwerp with a religious procession. John Tallis was an English cartographer and publisher who lived from 1817 to 1876 and published from the 1830s to the 1850s in London at his company J. & F. Tallis & Co.
