The Quincy was built for the Diamond Jo Line at Dubuque, Iowa, in the winter of 1895-1896. Much of the old Gem City went to her building. Her dimensions were: 264.7 by 42 by 6.8 feet. She had new machinery, engines of 22 inch diameter and 8 foot stroke. Her maiden trip was made in the St. Louis and St. Paul trade in August, 1896. She was a heavy coal burner but very fast. Ran until retired in 1915 and she was converted into an excursion boat, the J. S., by Streckfus Steamers of St. Louis, Missouri. The J. S. came out in 1919 as St. Louis's \"de luxe\" excursion boat at $15.50 and $1.25 per head while their other boat, the Saint Paul, charged $1.00. She had a successful career and was dismantled at St. Louis in the winter of 1938-1939 along with the Washington.
