THE GOLDEN EAGLE WAS BUILT IN 1904 BY THE HOWARD SHIP YARD AND DOCK COMPANY AT JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA AS THE WM. GARIG, A SOUTHERN COTTON BOAT. HER WOODEN HULL IS 175 BY 35 BY 5.2 FEET AND THE GROSS AND NET TONNAGE IS 193. THE MACHINERY IS OF 200 HORSEPOWER WITH CYLINDERS 15 INCHES IN DIAMETER AND SIX FEET STROKE. THE BOILERS ARE 44 INCHES IN DIAMETER BY 32 FEET LONG. THE EAGLE PACKET COMPANY BOUGHT THE BOAT IN 1918, BROUGHT HER TO ST. LOUIS, AND CHANGED HER NAME TO THE GOLDEN EAGLE.
