Description: Brentwood was known as Maddenville for awhile after this man, Thomas Madden, who started with a small farm and ended by almost literally owning the town. Madden built - though he did not run - many of Brentwood's first shops, quarried stone, built roads and even ran a tavern. He is shown here about 1910 with one of his granddaughters.
