"U.S. Doughboys in Possession, While Old Glory Flies Over Historic Rhine Fortress./ The U.S. Army of Occupation on the Rhine have flown the first U.S. Flag to wave over a German fortress. The spot is Fort Ehrenbreitstein (shown in upper photo) where Old Glory proudly waves, having been hoisted by Col. McCabe of the 17th U.S. Artillery. The Gibraltar of the "Rhine" as this historic old German stronghold houses American troops, who may be seen daily at their drill there. As shown in the lower photo, a company of the 17th at drill at Ehrenbreitstein, on the Rhine. The 17th Artillery is part of the U.S. 1st Division."
