"These St. Louis area youngsters survived an elimination round Saturday to advance to the finals in the 29th annual Globe-Democrat Spelling Bee. The letter-perfect youngsters will join other area spellers and 14 from outstate Missouri and Illinois in the finals to be held at 10a.m. May 2 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. In Saturday's elimination sessions at UMSL, 68 area school champions competed in the morning and 76 in the afternoon.
