"Four of the preliminary winners at the Globe-Democrats Spelling Bee Saturday afternoon were: Dave Becker, 13, Parkway East Junior High School; Kristin Berg, 12, Sperreng School; Carnetta Grandberry, 12, Ascension school; and Tina Le, McKelvey school. St. Louis Globe-Democrat Public Relations Assistant Catherine Brown, right, and Richard B. Buchanan, senior Marketing Manager, Kottmeyer Publications, Webster Division of McGraw Hill Book Company presented the four with two hard bound spelling books."
