"Excavation work started yesterday on the new Globe-Democrat frequency modulation radio station KWGD on the building site between Thirteenth and Twelfth streets and Cole and Carr streets. Pictured above is the motor shovel working on the sit of the radio station's main building which will have a 525 foot tower atop it. In the background is the Globe-Democrat newspaper plant located at Twelfth street and Franklin avenue. The new all-FM broadcasting station is a part of the Globe-Democrat Publishing Company's 1947 expansion program to further serve the great St. Louis area."
