Greenbrier's Bill Furman presenting a check for $13,500 per railcar to Norm Feren, SPRR Mechanical and Bob Yates SPRR Intermodal for the purchase of obsolete multi-level railcars and their conversion into Twin 45' trailer flatcars. Work will be performed at SPRR's RAMAC facility in Roseville, CA under a $6 million contract where SPRR Mechanical at RAMAC will perform the work and be paid by Greenbrier who will then lease the 45' Twin 45' trailer flatcars to SPRR Intermodal. Dick Lenz Assistant Chief Mechanical Officer-Car said the "work will use about a third of RAMAC's work force and is its first outside contract." Bill Schwoerer the Plant Manager at RAMAC said the program will show proof of our quality workmanship. R.D. Krebs President of SPT Co. said "We are taking unused cars and converting them into useful assets." George Erickson VP Equipment SPRR said that "the program recycles the railcars from the Automotive Unit to the Intermodal Unit increasing our Rate of Return on our investment."
