M-113: St. Louis Imprints Collection

The St. Louis Imprints Collection at the St. Louis Mercantile Library contains approximately 8,000 items documenting the printing history of St. Louis, from its beginnings in 1808, to the end of World War II in 1945. Formats include books, broadsides, pamphlets, serials, prints and maps. The collection covers the widest array of topics, from history and law, to art and literature, and includes important first printings, such as the first book printed in English west of the Mississippi, The Laws of the Louisiana Territory (1808), and long runs of rare periodicals and newspapers for this region. M-113: St. Louis Imprints Collection is also indexed within the special collections directory of the St. Louis Mercantile Library.

Containing a list of incorporated companies with names of officers, capital stock and year of incorporation, a numerically arranged telephone directory with names of subscribers to each of the telephone systems, a complete street and avenue guide including a directory of householders, a list of clubs with names of officers and members followed by their business addresses, the names of all state and city officials together with other miscellaneous information., The Red-Blue Book series from the Polk-Gould Directory Company combines the long running Red Book and Blue Book series that the Gould Directory Company published until 1916. The Blue Book was a directory for polite society with lists of social clubs and well-to-do citizens while the Red Book was long known as Gould's Commercial Register and maintained information about St. Louis businesses.
