Maureen Corbett, 14, became the local spelling bee champion by spelling these words correctly in the final round of The Globe-Democrat Spelling Bee competition Saturday afternoon. Maureen is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Corbett, and is an eight grade student at Assumption Parish School. More than 800 schools participated in the Bee. the schools are in 53 counties in Missouri and 30 counties in Illinois.
