25 families need new housing: West End building closure at 4471 Olive St forces tenants to look for a new home, which many say they can't afford. Pictured: Mr. Roy Schmidt, 72. Mr. Schmidt claims that many many tenants can't afford to move until they get their Social Security checks. Tenants were notified of the building closure by letter on February 12th, 1975.
At First National Bank's annual 25-Year Club baquet in the Statler-Hilton hotel are (left to right) Excetive Vice President Edwin S. Jones; Harry Retking, a retiree who served the bank for 49 years; President John B. Mitchell; Ralph Hoeser of the discount department, who was honored for 50 years' service; Donald A. Erman, discount teller who has been with the bank 48 years, and George F. Engel senior vice president and a 42-year veteran. There are 154active members of the bank's25-Year Club and 89 retired members.

"These St. Louis area youngsters survived an elimination round Saturday to advance to the finals in the 29th annual Globe-Democrat Spelling Bee. The letter-perfect youngsters will join other area spellers and 14 from outstate Missouri and Illinois in the finals to be held at 10a.m. May 2 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. In Saturday's elimination sessions at UMSL, 68 area school champions competed in the morning and 76 in the afternoon. This type dwelling, one of many erected on Second and Third streets in the 1840s, was called a "row." The two doors on the sidewalk level of the building led to a court usually planted in flowers and trees.

Some 360 kegs of beer are filled and bunged (sealed) hourly on this draught line; it is typical of the draught lines at all ten Anheuser-Busch breweries throughout the U.S.
Matt Bennett, 4-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry J. Bennett, 7837 Delmont, Affton, is the latest local winner in the test sponsored by The Globe-Democrat.

Crane, Furniture wholesale and retail, Fourth, cor. of Washington, was one of the big advertisers in the 1878 directory. Crane's name can be made out on the store at the left. The Benton Bellefontaine horse car and Fourth street horse car a renegotiating the busy intersection without help of a traffic officer. The building housing Miss Mageon's ship was the National Guard Armory.

The 25 year Club of First National Bank in St. Louis held its annual banquet Thursday evening and two stff members, Walter A. Heidell, assistant vice president, in the left and William F. Tennent, loan service with the bank.
