Angry Affton residents marched on the Affton Fire District Engine House, 8110 Valcour Ave., Monday Night to demand the district pull out of a merger with three north St. Louis County districts or resign.The board of directors refused to act on their requests.

Charles E. Moore has his books examined by auditors from the Department of Revenue after $60,000 was reported missing. The two men were photographed though a window as Moore was cooperative but unwilling to have his picture taken or talk to press.

Image depicts the new $5 million roofing granule facility of the Ruberoid Co., a 29-plant nationwide building materials network. This facility is designed to serve the granule requirements of asphalt roofing manufacturers in the south and southwest as well as several of Ruberoid's own roofing plants. With the opening of this plant in Annapolis Missouri, Ruberoid increases its Missouri installations to three. Other plants are at St. Louis in Kansas City
The conversions of two more apartment buildings to condominiums were approved Tuesday by the Clayton Board of Aldermen. At left is a three-unit condominium at 6304 S. Rosebury Ave. At right is a two-unit condominium at 6456-56 San Bonita Ave.
The Apple Shed, on the edge of Clarksville, will be the setting for the September performances of the satirical opera, The Beggar's Opera put on by the Opera Theatre of St. Louis.

The winners of the highly-contested race for councilman in Arnold were sworn in Monday night by Chief Judge M. C. Matthes of the 8th circuit Federal Court of Appeals. From left to right, the new councilmen are: Charles Reichardt, Ward 1; Clifford Scates, Ward 1; Ed Schleff, Ward 4; Max Washburn, Ward 2; George McNamara, Ward 3; Gilbert Pfaff, Ward 3; James Eames, Ward 2 and Al Ems, Ward 4. More than 65 persons had entered races for various city government positions.

Image depicts an Arnold policeman who has his weapon at the ready while another law officer kicks the door of a clubhouse along the Meramec River in a search for a burglary suspect. Arnold Patrolman John H. LeCompte was shot and critically wounded when the suspect apparently disarmed the officer during a struggle, police said. The suspect was later shot in an exchange of gunfire with police after he tried to wade in the river.
