Description: The Spread Eagle packet is shown heading downstream below the Merchants Bridge. It was owned by Capts. Henry and Buck Leyhe who once operated the Eagle Packet Company. Located near Eads Bridge since 1874.
A member of the famous Eagle fleet, the Spread Eagle was lost Jan. 18, 1918 when it hit an ice wall while at the head of a fleet of four Eagle steamboats on the Tennessee River.

Description: The Peerless, Captain Tom Barry, was an Alabama River packet running from Mobile to Montgomery, Alabama. She was built as the James T. Staples in 1908 at Mobile, Alabama and her net and gross tonnage was 365. The high pressure machinery was rated as 900 horsepower. The wooden hull was 200 x 40 x 5.1 feet. She carried a crew of 41.
