"A new and eye-catching landscape graces City Hall on the twelfth street side. Four levels of recently-planted azaleas, red and white petunias and red and white roses lend charm to the building's main entrance. Landscaping is part of a program to clean and beautify city buildings. Sprinkling the area is city gardener Charles Steckmeyer."
"'Tranquility' comes to City Hall, at least in the form of this mural, one of six which now grace the office of Supply Commissioner R.K. Bennett (standing at right). Others are Mrs. Maryann Mansfield (left), receptionist; Mrs. Ruth L. Dale, clerk-typist, and J.L. Elchinger, deputy commissioner."
"STICKER RUSH. Motorists jam City Hall parking lot in a rush to beat the last-minute rush for city auto stickers. With the deadline a week from Saturday, more than 114,000 have been sold, but over 65,000 other motorists have yet to purchase them. Some 5500 stickers were sold yesterday."
"Getting rid of Cupid, a long-time fixture of the Marriage License Bureau in City Hall, are Recorder of Deeds, Anthony J. Denny (right), who termed it "an eyesore for years," and his chief clerk, John "Mickey McTiernan. Watching are some of Denny's staff, from left: Mrs. Mary Sgroi, Mrs. Gertrude Hogan, Mrs. Anna Kieffer, Mrs. Helen Looby, Mrs. Mary M. Bohn, Mrs. Helen Stephens, Miss Louise Zimmerman, and Mrs. Nita Rogers."
"Rushing to beat the Monday deadline, St. Louis taxpayers jammed the office of Collector of Revenue Del L. Bannister yesterday and lined up in the hallway at City Hall. The long lines (left) were kept orderly by policemen as they waited for the office (right) to clear. Taxes not paid before the office closes at 5 p.m., or postmarked by midnight tomorrow, will become delinquent and subject to penalties of a 2 per cent collector's commission and 1 per cent per month penalty up to 10 months. St. Louis County taxpayers come under the same regulations."
A check for $61,994,543, representing income taxes withheld from the pay of Army and Air Force personnel during the first half of this year, was presented yesterday to Collector of Internal Revenue James P. Finnegan (fourth from left) by Brig. Gen. E.J. Bean (left), commanding general of the Army Finance Center. Looking on were (from left) Lt. Col. J.F. Whitton Jr. of the Army Finance Center and T.M. Chapman. and E.J. Paulette, both of the Internal Revenue office."
"Miss Betty Douglas, clerk in the office of the Collector of Revenue, stands on a ladder to check back tax records which are piled nearly 12 feet high in a basement storeroom at City Hall. The microfilming project now underway would eliminate dozens of storerooms and provide more space for expanding offices."
