This map, plotted out by Norbury Wayman, shows the various locations of steamboat lines and related companies on the St. Louis levee, detailing three periods of time; before 1865; 1865 - 1900; and 1900 - 1953. Lines and companies are donated by name, location and years of operation. Nearby streets are mapped as well, for easy frame of reference. Scale in feet: 100 ft. = 1 inch.
This picture taken in Carondelet looking north on Broadway from Nagel st. shows a local celebration of the Carondelet Germania Turn Verein, probably its annual photo.
The five storey building in the right background is the old Carondelet Milling Company's flour mill, later Bauer's Flour Mill. The building is still standing and is now the home of the Romeo Flour Company. The Turner insignia shows the four Fs which designate the principles of the society. Translated freely they mean fresh, free, strong, and true. This picture was taken in the 1880s. The Germania Turner group occupied a building at Michigan and Robert ave. in 1877, but in 1881 had moved to Fifth (Broadway) and Taylor (Robert). This view is just about a block from their 1881 headquarters.
