Building and construction tradesmen have pledge there will be no jurisdictional disputes to slow down or halt construction of the $48 million, 31-story downtown office building and bank complex to be built during the next 27 months in the Busch Memorial Stadium.
The new Stadium Drive-In of the First National Bank in St. louis opened Monday at Seventh and Market streets in downtown, St. Louis, immediately north of busch Memorial Stadium. The two-story concrete and glass structure has both drive-in and walk-in banking facilities. The facility opens for business Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 8 a.m. Hours for banking will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Hampton Bank of St. Louis has moved to its new quarters in Hampton Bank Building, across from Hampton Village Shopping Center. It will hold open house there today from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. James Rush James Jr. is president.
Shielded by bullet-proof glass, a teller in the drive-in booth at the Jefferson-Gravois Bank Friday ignored and ran from gunman who said he would "shoot to kill" if he didn't get money. He got nothing. The teller, Mrs. Edna L. Sudmeier, 48, told police a well-groomed young man drove up at 12:55 p.m. and handed her a note, saying "This is a holdup. Put $5, $10, and $20 in the tray. A neatly-dressed man, wearing dark glasses, hheld up a teller at Jefferson-Gravois Bank and escaped with about $2200 at 11:20 .m. Friday. The teller, mrs evalena Swinford, told police the man, about 30 years old, placed a note on the counter when he approached her window in the bank, 2604 S Jefferson ave. The note said, "I have a gun, put the money in the bag or I'll kill you."
These are the receipts Ed Mays, president of the Grand National Bank, got when he gave the banks's insurance company cashier's checks for the $140,000 reward for the return of the $822,000 in bonds stolen from his bank. One check was for $65,000 and the other for $75,000, and both were dated January 19. The reciepts were signed by Emmett M. Mayers, resident vice president of the insurance company.
The looted boxes in the safe-deposit vault of the Grand National Bank were taken from these pigeon holes the piece of sheet metel was pried from the back of the tier of boxes which had been pulled out from the wall in preparation for moving.
