Captain Roy M. Streckfus commanded the big steamer for many years, with his son, Captain J. Curran Streckfus, taking over for her last season on the Upper Mississippi River in 1941. This 66 year old packet was dismantled in 1945 at St. Louis, Missouri, by the Streckfus Steamers, Inc., owners. The dismantling of the Capitol leaves Streckfus Steamers with only two excursion boats still in operation
