"A seven-run blow in the seventh inning of their game with the Dodgers yesterday at Sportsmans Park, and this is just a small part of it. Thats' Duke Snider of the Dodgers sliding safely across home plate and the ball, bouncing out of Catcher Del Rice's glove, right, went far enough to permit Andy Pafko to cross the plate, too. The play resulted from Roy Campanella's infield single with the bases loaded for the Dodgers. The ball went to Billy Johnson of the Cards, at third base, but his throw to the plate was wild. Umpire Lee Ballanfant called the play and the Dodgers went on with the serious business of winning the ball game, 9-3, for their twelfth consecutive triumph over the Birds."
"Might be Duke Snider's Comment after kicking both the ball and glove out of the hand of Pitcher Royce Lint in the eighth inning of yesterday's Brooklyn-Cardinal game at Busch Stadium. Snider had tripled off Lint, and when he uncorked a pitch which got away from the catcher, Duke took off for home. Cardinal Catcher Bill Sarni retrieved the ball and threw covering the plate, but the Dodger outfielder made sure he wouldn't be tagged by booting the ball out of the way."
"[Cunningham] is being greeted as he crosses the plate following his tie-breaking home run into the left field bleachers during yesterday's game with the Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium. Extending congratulations are Shortstop Alex Grammas, the Cardinal bat boy (foreground). The Cards won, 4-3."

"Vinegar Bend Mizell (far left) starts for the dugout after being relieved in the first inning of yesterday's game against the Phils at Busch Stadium. Mizell had walked two batters and had thrown 11 balls in his first 12 pitches when Manager Fred Hutchinson (29) called in Willard Schmidt (facing Hutchinson). Catcher Hal Smith (18) and Shortstop Al Dark (right) look on. The Cards lost, 7-5."
"The Cardinals Don Blasingame smashed into the Reds' Johnny Temple after being forced at second in the first inning of yesterday's second game at Busch Stadium. Temple managed to get the throw off to first, but it reached First Baseman George Crowe to late to double Al Dark. The play started when Dark grounded to Third Baseman Don Hoak. The Cards swept the twin bill, 3-2 and 9-6."
"with their bats 25 years ago for the Gashouse Gang. Recalling the good old days with Branch Rickey (second from left), their general manager here, at the baseball writers banquet last night at the Sheraton-Jefferson Hotel are Joe Medwick (left), Rip Collins (second from right) and Pepper Martin."
"Kept the Cardinals from scoring in the fourth inning of yesterday's game with the Dodgers at Busch Stadium. Here Wally Moon is shown being nailed at the plate in the wind-up of a twin killing engineered by the Dodgers, who won, 2 to 1. The play started when Stan Musial grounded to First Baseman Gil Hodges, who stepped on first, then fired the ball to Catcher Roy Campanella to get Moon."
Rookie First Baseman Tom Alston slides home on the pay-off end of a double steal in the third inning of yesterday's game with the Baltimore Orioles at Busch Stadium. Umpire Bill Jackowski spreads his arms in the "safe" gesture, while Catcher Clint Courtney can't even make a tag. While Alston stole home, Alex Grammas pilfered second. Alston, with two thefts, led the Birds who stole a total of six and walloped the former Browns, 8-3.
"Alex Grammas, the Cardinal shortstop, was caught leaning the wrong way yesterday in the third inning at Busch Stadium and the Brooklyn Dodgers picked him off first base. The play from Pitcher Clem Labine to Gil Hodges."
