Concrete supports stretch westward toward the Mississippi River as construction continues on the new Jefferson Barracks bridge being built north of Columbia. The bridge will replace the current structure and connect with the Interstate 270 bypass, which will extend to Interstate 55-70 at Collinsville.
Concrete piers for the westbound span of the new Jefferson Barracks double-span bridges rise below and beside the existing bridge. The old two-lane bridge across the Mississippi River south of St. Louis eventually will be razed.

The project replaced four bridge structure and relocated Park Avenue to the intersection of Tower Grove and Vandeventer. The five million dollar structure was completed today.

The bridge will carry Interstate Highway 270 across the Mississippi River near the old Chain of Rocks bridge.
The Golden Goose of Madison, Ill., has laid an egg and may become a dead duck. Translated, that means the twisting, venerable Chain of Rocks Bridge is up for grabs--in fact it may be given away. Ownership of the bridge "is a detriment to the city at this time," the mayor said.
