A crowd of hundreds waits for a chance to buy one of 100 Cabbage Patch dolls. The MEGS discount drug store at 825 Ballwin Plaza celebrated its opening by selling 100 Cabbage Patch Dolls. The buyers started lining up at 4:15 a.m. and some waited longer than 4 hours for the store to open at 9:30.

The Ballwin Fire Protection District officially opened Engine House No. 3 Sunday at Manchester Road and Missouri 109 in Grover. The building was designed to be energy efficient, it has eight bays for firefighting equipment, two for maintenance, a maintenance shop, living and exercise rooms for firefighters and paramedics and space for district headquarters. The district serves a 57.5 acre area
Improperly Treated Sewage in Ballwin flows from a sewer pipe at the right , mixing with clear water at the left. Missouri Conservation Agent Dennis Connor said this week that the darker water in the foreground indicates improperly treated sewage. He said that pollution in the Ballwin area has prompted him to notify the State Water Pollution Board.

The new Miss Ballwin, Joyce Nichols, 17, was crowned Miss Ballwin 1979 during Ballwin Days last weekend. The Senior at Lafayette High School is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Nichols, 567 Spragues Mill Court. Participants in the Miss Ballwin contest were judged on appearance and poise. Melodee Hinkle was Miss Ballwin in 1978.
The Queen of Ballwin Days was Melodee Hinkle, shown at left. Miss Hinkle, 20, is an elementary education and dance major at Maryville College. She is shown with Ballwin's oldest residents: Henry Koch, 88, and Martha Walka, 84.
The 1981 Ballwin Days end-of-summer celebration featured several events and attracted fifty thousand people. City officials considered it the most successful in the four-year history of the event.

Residents of the Country Creek-Springwood subdivision in Ballwin are worried that neither the subdivision developer nor the city will assume responsibility for damage to a concrete drainage system. Heavy rains two weeks ago caused a sudden rush of storm water that tossed the concrete slabs out of position. The city has already told the residents it will not assume responsibility for the damage.
