This series was taken Sept 16 - 1946. The Eagle Packet wanted a picture as near like the one they considered their favorite to use for postal cards. So Bill & I visited the boat then went north of the Eads Bridge & took this series.
"Golden Eagle" below Eads Bridge St. Louis MO. Picture taken May 17, 1947 before departure for her last trip to Nashville, Tenn. She sank next morning May 18 at Grand Tower Island after striking rock formation and fearing a 6 foot hole in the center seam in the hull. From the last St. Louis owned tourist Str. GOLDEN EAGLE, which struck rock bottom 80 miles South of St. Louis May 18, 1947. Passengers and crew left safely. The boat broke up, a total loss. The PILOT HOUSE is now in the River Room of the Jefferson Memorial in Forest Park.
This picture album was made by Marga Sachse with her photographs taken at the sinking of the Golden Eagle. Marga and other members put more albums together for GE Club members. This one was given to the GE Rive Museum from Oliver Parmely's children after he passed on Dec. 1989.
