The G. W. Hill was built in 1909 at Jeffersonville, Indiana for use on the upper Mississippi and Illinois Rivers. She was 190 feet long, 36 feet beam and 5 feet depth of hold. She ran between St. Louis and Calhoun County in Illinois in the apple trade. She was owned by Captain D. W. Wisherd and Sam Gregory who made an excursion boat out of her in 1912. Her name was later changed to Island Maid
