In 1929, Brewer was one of the finest facilities in the Midwest and the Big Six conference. But the building grew old and was replaced by the $10.5 million Hearnes Center.
In the late 60's, upon construction of the Hearnes Complex, Brewer Fieldhouse ceased in activity significantly. The basketball team no longer played on Fieldhouse's wooden court, switching to Hearne's tartan floor in 1972. But rather than tear Brewer-Fieldhouse down, funds were dedicated to it. New courts, tracks, and locker rooms were planned. Brewer-Fieldhouse would reopen in 1975.
