Construction of the new basketball arena began in 1969, officially opening in 1972. Construction strikes and the lack of funds caused the auditorium's slow development. The 1971 Kansas-Missouri game was supposed to close Brewer Fieldhouse as the basketball arena, but Hearnes hadn't yet been fully built., Savitar, 1971. page 119.

2003 - The end of Hearnes Center

In 2003, Hearnes center had been home to MU athletics for almost four decades. However, at the time, Mizzou Arena was under construction and scheduled to open in 2004. This is one of the Savitar's last looks at Hearnes., Savitar, 2003. page 261.
