ROLLAND ROLLS FOR LONG RUN. Halfback Johnny Roland (23) of the Cardinals seems to be stopped here by a host of Philadelphia Eagle tacklers after grabbing Sam Baker's punt during the second period Sunday's National Football league season opener at Busch Stadium. But the former Missouri U. star bounced off Ron Medford (45) and rolled to his right and galloped 52 yards into the Philadelphia end zone. However, the run was nullified because the eager Big Red had roughed up the punter. Other identifiable Eagle players are Jim Nettles (9) and Dwight Kelley (51).
"Eddie Lake, youthful Cardinal's rookie starting his first game of the season, is shown sliding across the plate for the third and final Red Bird run in the third inning of yesterday's game against the Bees at Sportsmans Park.
