A photo of the Fairgrounds Swimming Pool Riot Incident of June 21, 1949 is shown here. This riot was caused after African Americans were finally allowed to swim at the Fairgrounds Swimming Pool. Before this, only White patrons were allowed to use the pool. Because of disagreements on the basis of race, a group of White teenagers began threatening and beating several Black people (including children). Several were injured, but no one was killed. Several people were arrested as well. This photo shows a Black man who appears to be escorted by police.
