The MU Digital Library is an open access digital library that contains content primarily from the MU Libraries collection that we have digitized. Faculty, staff, and students affiliated with the University of Missouri can suggest items to be included into the Digital Library.

Q- What is an open access digital library?

A- An open access digital library is a collection of digital objects in a variety of formats including but not limited to text, visual material, and video material stored in electronic media formats which are available to everyone (with a computer and internet access).

Q- What software does MU Digital Library use?

A- Our Digital Library uses the open-source software framework, Islandora. Islandora was originally developed by the University of Prince Edward Island's Robertson Library, but is now implemented and contributed to by an ever-growing international community. This software was chosen for its viewers' ability to display common formats of document, image, audio, and video content without users having to download anything.

Q- What equipment do you use for scanning?

A- The bulk of our scanning is done with a Zeutschel OS 15000 scanner. This scanner scans in color, grayscale, and black and white. This scanner is capable of scanning images at 600 dpi. Over-sized objects are scanned on an Indus Color Book Scanner 5005. This scanner scans in color at a maximum of 400 dpi.

Q- As an MU faculty, staff, or student, how can I contribute or suggest content to be included in the Digital Library?

A- The MU Digital Library is primarily content from the MU Libraries collection that we have digitized. Faculty, staff, and students affiliated with the University of Missouri can suggest items to be included into the Digital Library. If you have an item(s) that you would like the Digital Library to consider digitizing and adding, please contact us using our contact form via a link located on the bottom of each page in the Digital Library or by using the direct link here: Contact.

Q- What types of materials are accepted into the Digital Library?

A- Currently the Digital Library is adding books and other texts, maps, newspapers, posters and other images, university publications, and videos.
